CADILLAC AREA PUBLIC SCHOOLS For educating children for over 100 years - yes, we are proud. We have a quality education system, with picturesque settings and outstanding facilities that include: Community Auditorium The public support to Cadillac Area Public Schools was demonstrated by a strong vote of confidence in a 1993 millage renewal for seven years.
PHILOSOPHY OF BOARD OF EDUCATION Educational stability is very important during these times. Working with you and your children to provide the best possible education for all children is our goal, our task, and our responsibility. That is why we maintain the philosophy that all children should be given the opportunity to learn at their own rate. COMMUNITY SCHOOL The Cadillac Area Public Schools operate as community facilities, day and night. Many educational and recreational programs are offered for preschool, teenagers, adults, and senior citizens. The city and schools invite you and your family to take an active part in the Arts Council, Symphony Orchestra, Sweet Adelines, Civic Theatre, and the many year-round recreational programs offered through the Community-School Programs. The community also offers cross-country skiing at Vocational School, ice skating at Lincoln School, swimming at Kenwood Community Beach and lakefront parks for picnics and boating recreation. Each school building has parent and/or booster groups and we encourage your contact with the building principal to become active members in their many activities. The parent groups have helped to provide carpeting for our elementary schools, equipment for our athletic programs, lights for the Viking Memorial Stadium and parking lots at the Middle School and High School. We are proud of the many improvements made possible by the assistance of these groups. MISSION STATEMENT We believe education is a continuous process in which all students can learn through shared responsibility of students, staff, parents and community. We further believe it is essential that the school district provide a diversified curriculum through which each student will achieve his/her potential academically, emotionally, physically and socially. We will strive to develop each student as a productive, self-reliant, and responsible member of our changing global society. EDUCATIONAL GOALS * To develop a command of the fundamental intellectual processes and
skills needed today and in the future. PARTNERS FOR PROGRESS The achievement and quality of life for students of the Cadillac Area Public Schools are directly related to the equally shared partnership with the school and the parents. Parent-Teacher Organizations are quite supportive of their schools by assisting with projects - such as classroom carpeting. Viking Boosters is a parent and citizen organization dedicated to providing funds and equipment for the various sports functions. Band Boosters is the same type of activity supporting the high school, middle school, and elementary bands with funds for uniforms, equipment and other requirements. The Ski Boosters, Junior Achievement, area business/school partnerships, and others are supportive of the schools. BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP The purpose of Business/Education Partnerships is to foster a better understanding in the community of our public school system and improve the educational process through direct involvement of businesses in a one-to-one relationship with individual schools. CAPS has many existing partnerships involving students in elementary and secondary schools and teachers/business people. Partnerships enable educators to be aware of the current trends in business to create relevant activities and curriculum. Students are exposed to a variety of careers and skills through partnerships. . TRANSPORTATION KINDERGARTEN CAMP TORENTA SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES One of this program's most important functions is to provide high school students with an avenue to make up classes or work for reinforcement in subject areas. As requirements increase for graduation, it is important for high school students to succeed in all required subject areas. As demands on students' time increase, should they fall behind in credit hours, it becomes increasingly difficult to make up necessary classes. Should they need to totally make up a class or just need some reinforcement, the intercession is here to help. Also offered are classes in reading and math for all school-aged children and science classes for upper elementary and middle school grades. The approach in summer is relaxed and fun, and learning in these subject areas takes on new dimensions. Along with summer classes, CAPS also covers summer recreation, handled by Community Schools. There are a wide variety of recreational activities available from swimming lessons to camping and sports camps for male and female athletes. Reading (GRASP) programs, summer GED and Learning Labs are conducted each summer for six weeks. Also available through the Community-School Program are a wide variety of enrichment and recreational activities for all ages. A playground program for elementary students is conducted on the various playgrounds.
